Verna Snook: “For eight years now, my husband Charles and I have organized a recycling project in aid of Cancer Care projects at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre. A two-time cancer survivor myself, I decided with Charles that I wanted to do this type of project and now years later we are both very glad we did. We have reaped the reward of knowing that many newly diagnosed cancer patients have received assistance after being recommended by a medical care professional. In the past few years alone, approx… 50 Amoena Camisoles and other patient comfort & care items have been purchased for breast cancer patients through this fund. We certainly couldn’t do this recycling project without the support of my Eastern Health co-workers (Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre), Salt Pond Esso – Giles Pike & staff , Marystown Hotel kitchen staff, Fabian Turpin (our newest contributor, who goes out of his way to do a monthly recycling collection) and of course our family and friends. This gift of $3078.70 will be divided 2-ways; $1078.70 for future cancer care comfort and care items purchases and $2000.00 toward the newly established Chemotherapy Upgrades Trust Fund at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre”.
